What is a Juried Artist? Receipt of the "Juried" designation was designed to provide presenters, exhibitors, educational institutions, and social service organizations with a list of outstanding professional artist with solid experience in a variety of traditional and/or non-traditional settings.
In the past, artists could become designated as "Juried" through a separate application process or by being the recipient of an Arts Council "Creation" grant. The Juried term lasted for six years, and required artists to re-apply for Juried status at the end of their term.
Beginning in 2008, we will no longer be conducting the Juried Artist Process to add new artists to the list. We will, however, be maintaining a "Teaching Artist Roster" and offering a competitive application process for artists who wish to seek the designation.
The Council is planning on undergoing an upgrade of the Arts Directory in the future. The new Directory will continue to be a searchable database of artists and arts organizations in the state--but will only offer a special designation to "Teaching Artists." In the meantime, the list of "Juried" artists will remain as it is until we are able to make changes to the database.
